Songtradr SyncTalk is a podcast series that opens the discussion around sync licensing, its many participants, and some of the ins and outs around placing music and sound to visual media.

Winning work in the world of sync licensing is tough. Now add one crazy pandemic situation. As lockdown causes unprecedented shutdowns of film, TV, and advertising productions, the difficulties multiply.

In this episode, I was lucky enough to lock down members from WMP Studios to talk about their revamped way of working due to COVID-19.

Meet WMP’s director, Benjamin McAvoy, and creatives Kamal Kamruddin, William Featherby, and Peter Yelland-Brown. The Leeds-based composers and sound designers are no strangers to the long, hard road of pitching for sync. They’ve been at it since 2007 and with the new uncertainties, they’ve had to make sizable adjustments to the fundamental ways they collaborate — while continuing to stoke the embers of creativity.

Now in lockdown, the hard-working team who have worked with major brands like Airbnb, Helly Hansen, Godiva, and Tanqueray were immeasurably charming and forthright as they spoke about their pitching process, clients singing trombone lines and Soreen malt loaf.
